Lennon has his annual daycare shut-down this week so Dave
and I are enjoying a couple extra days at home with him. Last year at this time
I recall it was in the mid 90’s to 100 all week…we felt bad for all the family
that had to sit in our hot house to help us out for the week. This year we have
air conditioning, and of course it’s going to be in the 70’s all week. I feel
like it’s fall already…where did the summer months go?
I forgot how well our little guy sleeps when he’s all
snuggled in the stroller on a cool morning. I’m sure the afternoon will be
interesting as he only takes one nap per day…good thing it’s daddy’s day ;).
I had one good pepper sprouting from my garden, but the
anticipation was too much for Lennon. He picked it apart, gnawed on in for a
few minutes then discarded it for the squirrels. Guess I’ll have to wait
another 4 months for another one to grow.
Lennon will be 18 months old in a couple weeks. That’s
almost 2 years old, friends. He has been developing like crazy over the past month
or so. I’ve been testing him to see if he understands certain things we ask of
him and he almost always does. It’s really remarkable what these little brains
can process. I’m sure we will not peak in our toddlerness for a year or two
still, but the boy sure has reached that phase. He’s defiant, throws mini tantrums
all day and even tries to negotiate. Last night he attempted to give me his Nuk
in lieu of having to get his fingernails clipped. We held off on letting him
watch his favorite music video because he will not let us clip those dang nails.
They are long and he keeps scratching himself, but he chose going to bed over
getting them done. So we’re certainly in that “testing” phase where we’re
constantly trying to reinforce what’s right and wrong while holding back
laughter when he does something hilariously naughty. For as often as he’s
toddlerish, he sure can be sweet and even kind at times. He “helps” pick things
up and sweep after dinner, he’s been known to share from time to time and he
doles out hugs and kisses very liberally.
Other happenings for our almost 18 month old; his vocabulary
has really started to take off. We can ask him to say just about anything and
he’ll spurt out some version of the word. The most common we hear are lawn
mower, mama, dad-tee, puppy, cheese, bus and brown bear. He officially
transitioned to the toddler room at daycare and he’s doing very well there. Eating
is very up and down. Some days he’ll down chicken and veggies like it aint no
thang and other days he’ll throw all but his fruit on the ground. He has a
major sweet tooth and could live off of oatmeal & muffins if we let him. I
notice if he’s had a more indulgent weekend it takes a few days to get him back
into good eating habits…much like mom and dad ;).
In other news, Dave has high hopes for Lennon this Packers season. So far he has shown some interest in the pre-season games and will jump up and down and get excited when he sees the ball on TV. The Barrett side may still convert him to the Vikings…time will tell.
Have a great week!
Erin
