One

Well, I’m about 10 days late…but our little man turned 1 year old on March 7th.  It was a year ago on that day that we were cooped up in a hospital room admiring our new baby boy. He was born at 2:00 in the morning and Dave and I both burst into tears when we heard his cry for the first time. He was so loud and dramatic, tiny & hungry. When the nurse brought him over and he heard our voices, he was instantly calm & started sucking on my chin. He was so red, wrinkly and rough looking…but I thought he was the sweetest thing I’d ever seen.

One year later, Lennon has 4 teeth, plays peek-a-boo like it’s his job, dances, claps and gets into just about everything. He loves to get chased around the house & gets a naughty look on his face when he finds the remote control or anything else he knows he’s not supposed to have. His favorite pastime is going into the kitchen and pulling out all of the plastic sandwich bags from the bottom drawer. He understands “no” and throws little tantrums when he’s overly tired and doesn’t get his way. Lately he’s been imitating us. He’ll shake his head, clap and blow air through his lips when we do. He has started fake-laughing to either get our attention or to get a reaction out of us. This past weekend I was shocked when I asked him to get a certain book and he went and grabbed it. He also walked down the sidewalk this past weekend and knew to go up to our house. It’s crazy how these little minds soak things in when you don’t even realize it’s happening.
We’ve still got a good eater on our hands, but for a couple weeks this month he straight up decided he only wanted cheese and Cheerios. He literally boycotted everything else and threw it on the floor. Then we went through a little bout of sickness where we relied a little too much on the bottle (not Dave and I, ha) so we’re back at square one with weaning him off.  We started him on whole milk recently and he seems to like it.  It’s pretty much cream, how could you not? He loves to eat whatever we are eating and if he hears the crinkle of a bag or sees us snacking in the kitchen he’ll dart across the room to get in on the action.
He’s been a bit of a mama’s boy lately & he’ll randomly run over and give me a hug or a kiss. It’s really sweet. On the other hand, he loves to have fun with daddy and gets excited when he hears him coming through the door after work.
Our first year of parenting was so hard, but so wonderful. For all of the lack of sleep, worrying, poopy diapers and tantrums there are an infinite amount of good things that make us all but forget about the struggles. Happy first birthday Lennon James! We are so excited for the years to come!
